Predation is an important mortality factor for Perdix perdix, especially during the breeding season: 82% of losses occur in broods, chicks are not fit to fly for a few weeks, and predation rates can vary between 5% and 60%.
Predation on specimens in the acclimatization phase is notoriously higher than that on natural specimens. For this reason, the LIFE Perdix project plans to counteract natural predation in the phases of introduction of Italian partridges through “ecological methods”, using subjects with an anti-predatory behavior specifically stimulated in breeding and using accommodation structures.
